15 Jun North Northants Council To Discuss Community Renewal Funds Shortlist
Funding bids worth a total of nearly £5.9 million which will help boost North Northants economy will be discussed by the Council’s Executive on the 22 June.
The UK Community Renewal Fund was launched by the Government in March 2021 and this new fund aims to support people and communities most in need across the UK to pilot projects across four Investment priorities:
- Investment in skills
- Investment in businesses
- Investment in communities and place
- Supporting people into employment
Applications for the Community Renewal Fund closed on 3 May and all applications have now been reviewed by North Northamptonshire Council (NNC), with a shortlist finalised and will be sent to government by the deadline of the 18 June. The Executive will be asked to endorse this submission at its meeting on the 22 June.
NNC received 23 applications from local organisations with ideas for projects which are designed to help the economy of North Northamptonshire’s towns and rural areas thrive and meet the four priority areas.
Cllr Steven North, Executive Member for Growth & Regeneration said:
“Across the application period, we received an exceptionally high-quality level of submissions, and our panel have reviewed each application carefully, before recommending a shortlist to government.
“Each of the projects recommended for shortlisting will, if approved and when complete, help North Northamptonshire thrive after what has been a difficult time for everyone.”
The shortlisted projects will then be assessed by Government officials, with decisions on approved projects expected by the end of July.
Cllr Jason Smithers, Leader of North Northamptonshire Council, said:
“As a Council, we have a strong vision to develop communities across North Northamptonshire, whilst being an area that creates excellent opportunities for everyone, and the projects that have been put forward for short listing will help us achieve this.
“I look forward to seeing the approved projects come into being over the next few years and the positive impact they will have on our residents and communities.”
NNC’s Executive will meet on 22 June and a full agenda can be viewed on the Council’s website.
